Ravenna, Italy July 25-29, 2010 “Judaism in the Mediterranean Context”
CALL FOR PAPERS
The executive committee of the EAJS is glad to announce that the next Congress will take place in Ravenna on July 25-29, 2010. The theme of the Congress will be ‘Judaism in the Mediterranean Context’.
The opening session will be held on the afternoon of Sunday July 25th 2010, and the conference will close in the evening on Thursday July 29th.
Proposals for papers are welcome from all scholars in the various fields of Jewish studies.
Proposals for lectures (20 minutes + 10 minutes for discussion), containing a title and a 300-word abstract, should be sent to the Congress Secretariat (eajs.ravenna2010@gmail.com) by 31 October 2009, indicating in which of the 16 sections of the Congress the lecture might best be placed.
Proposals must be accompanied by a brief CV, return mailing address, email address and telephone number.
The Sections of the Congress will be:

2. Biblical Literature and Language
3. Second Temple Judaism
4. Jews and Judaism in Late Antiquity
5. Rabbinic Literature
6. Medieval Jewish History
7. Medieval Jewish Literature
8. Manuscripts, Codices and Books
9. Early Modern History (1492-1600)
10. Modern Jewish History (1600-1933)
11. Modern Jewish Literature
12. Jewish Languages
13. Jewish Arts
14. Contemporary Jewish History (after 1933)
15. Jewish Philosophy
16. Jewish Mysticism, Kabbalah, Magic
GENERAL INFORMATION
The language of the congress will be English.
Information on the venue, transport and other practical issues will be available on the website (www.aisg.it/) on or before 1 December 2009.
CONGRESS REGISTRATION
Registration for the Congress will open on 1 December 2009.
Registration costs will be as follows:
For EAJS members: before 1 Feb 2010: 70 Euro
after 1 Feb 2010: 100 Euro
For non-members: before 1 Feb 2010: 150 Euro
after 1 Feb 2010: 180 Euro
In order to qualify for the lower congress fee for EAJS members, membership subscriptions must be paid up to and including 2010. Members in arrears should pay membership fees from the beginning of their membership or from 2006, whichever is the more recent.
A limited number of small grants will be available on application.
